Our Vision

Vision

We envision the holiness of God flowing through the city of Victoria like a flood. As a result …

1. We are cultivating genuine relationships with the people God brings into our lives.

Water, as a source of life, draws the thirsty to drink. We, at First Baptist Church, seek to be the drinking well that attracts those who are thirsty for a relationship with God. We want to be known for our compassionate love for others, our ability to look at others through the eyes of God, and to accept others as Christ did intentionally putting others first. We want to be so genuine in our love for others that they will be deeply moved by it – and will develop a desire to explore and then come to know the God we love and serve. We as a church, are seeking to bring love into the North Park neighbourhood and the surrounding areas, just as we, as individuals, are seeking to cultivate meaningful relationships in our own neighbourhoods. We strive to make our church a safe and comfortable place embracing the people God brings into our lives with compassion and support.

2. We are being transformed to be more like Jesus Christ.

As water has the ability to purify, so the waters of baptism are the outward expression of our decision to base our identity upon Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. We represent Jesus’ love in our world today. We seek to be more holy as God transforms us by the renewing of our mind and heart. As faithful children we seek to be like our Father so that when people look at us they will see God working through us.

3. We are being built into a vibrant church.

Living water as given to the Samaritan woman at the well is the same refreshment we offer to each other. We love one another. Together we want to live in true community building meaningful relationships. We forgive, encourage, and care for one another. When you come you will see joyous interactions, meet with people who are passionate, and experience a community that is healthy and loving. God is uniting us as a family as we seek opportunities to spend time together. The source of our vibrancy is the knowledge that God has forgiven us and has given new life. We seek to share this forgiveness with all people. Part of being vibrant is also keeping our doors and our hearts open as we strive to share the experience God is creating in our midst.

4. We are responding to God’s call.

Water has the natural ability to cover every surface; even tiny cracks and crevices will be permeated. We are the vessels of the living water of Jesus Christ being sent throughout Victoria and the world. There is no place that is untouched by God because He desires for His presence to be felt by all people. Therefore, we act by helping with local organizations in Victoria that assist people with various needs. We also look beyond our city by helping to support our missionaries and ministries affiliated with the Canadian Baptists of Western Canada (CBWC) and Canadian Baptist Ministries (CBM).
